Michelle Gillice has extensive experience as a product safety lawyer, both in private practice and for more than 9 years at CPSC. She assists companies with regulatory compliance at all stages of a product’s life cycle. Michelle represents manufacturers, distributors, importers, and retailers in avoiding unnecessary recalls, developing effective corrective action plans, and defending penalty investigations and enforcement actions. Michelle regularly works with clients to develop effective compliance policies and has extensive experience in matters involving industry voluntary standards, testing and certification, flammable fabrics, child-resistant packaging, and labeling requirements under the Federal Hazardous Substances Act. While at CPSC, Michelle was the lead attorney on numerous compliance investigations, recalls, and civil penalty matters and was the recipient of the Achievement of Commission Excellence Award and Distinguished Service Award for her work on infant sleep products investigations and recalls. Michelle also served on a detail as legal counsel to CPSC Chairman Inez Tenenbaum, and thereafter led an interdisciplinary team on all investigations, compliance activities, and education and outreach related to infant sleep products. In addition, Michelle has served as an instructor for the Consumer Product Safety Certification Program at St. Louis University's Richard A. Chaifetz School of Business.
